Flix's Story
What a journey!
When they founded Flix in 2013, entrepreneurs Jochen Engert, André Schwämmlein and Daniel Krauss planned to make bus travel sustainable, comfortable and affordable. FlixBus started with buses on the German road and quickly became market leader across Europe, developing into the largest range of long-distance buses on the continent. Flix is now operating in over 40 countries as well as the USA and South America. There is an international team of over 3,000 employees working from over 20 locations with headquarters in Munich and Berlin.
Growing from German start-up to Europe’s Number 1
Since our first buses hit the streets back in 2013, we have changed the way millions of people travel. But how? As a unique combination of a tech start-up, an e-commerce company and a classic transport operator. Since 2018 we have also been offering a constantly growing range of train connections and intermodal travel options with FlixTrain.
Our vision - Painting the world green
Our vision is to make it possible for everyone to discover the world to enjoy smart, sustainable travel. Ease of booking and an ever-growing offering mean that we provide millions of travelers with a comfortable, affordable, eco-friendly travel experience. Our green long-distance buses and long-distance trains meet the highest standards of comfort, safety and environmental protection, and offer a green alternative to private transport.
Green is more than a color
Green isn’t just our corporate colour. Sustainability is an integral part of our DNA ever since the start. Together with our partners, we set high environmental standards and push the boundaries for alternative travel technologies including creating the world’s first hydrogen powered long-distance bus fleet by 2024.
Our FlixTrains in Germany and Sweden run on a 100% renewable energy, and FlixBuses are some of the most climate-friendly public transport options. But everyone can help to become even greener. We also offer the chance for our customers to offset the CO2 footprint of their travels, as well as compensating all of our business travel ourselves since 2018.
An international network of providers
The Flix success story has various parts. Two of those are our successful mergers and acquisitions with Turkish Kamil Koç, and US based Greyhound. Kamil Koç the most established Turkish operator became part of Flix in October 2019, while Greyhound, the bus company with the largest US network joined the family in October 2021. Both companies keep operating under their well established and beloved brand names while being closely integrated to the ever-growing international network of Flix, now moving limits together.
