We’re seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to lead key functions for Flix North America, focusing on data privacy, tech compliance, and associated transactions, agreements, and policies. This generalist role also supports broader corporate legal areas—including advertising, governance, disputes, labor and employment, and contract work—while partnering closely with business units and other legal professionals.

About the Role

  • Data privacy-related legal issues and reporting responsibilities, including compliance efforts, policy development and revision, training, and advising on process improvements and project implementation
  • Advise Marketing, Revenue Management, Business Development, and IT teams on complex legal and regulatory matters across North America
  • Manage response to complaints and concerns raised by customers, counterparties, and other data subjects concerning privacy issues
  • Assist with complex and routine litigation and disputes
  • Contract drafting and negotiation with customers and vendors and communication with regulators, as necessary
  • Other legal duties as may be assigned by the General Counsel or requested by internal stakeholders
  • Advise and assist with labor and employment matters

About You

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited university
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a law practice, either in-house and/or with a sophisticated law firm. 
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state.
  • Experience providing responsive, practical, creative legal advice to businesses.
  • Ability to think strategically and evaluate potential risks to the Company, including economic, legal, and reputational.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility in keeping with the level of experience.
  • Previous experience advising clients on data privacy matters or advising on or managing data privacy compliance efforts, preferably with an in-house legal department, as well as a working familiarity with a wide range of privacy law and regulation.  This individual will be required to get up to speed and maintain a sufficient amount of expertise in data privacy law, stay abreast of applicable legal developments. Position may require travel.
